The exemplary scheme led by AWG Property and Mactaggart & Mickel, which amounts to 225 houses, includes the delivery of 75 much-needed affordable homes. It is also proposed that affordable housing be prioritised for local people and housing for the disabled may also be delivered, responding to local demands. The 75 affordable homes are a significantly higher percentage of the housing that is normally required by Falkirk Council.

The delivery of the site serves to address the current housing shortfall within the Falkirk Council area and it was previously identified in Falkirk Council’s draft Local Development Plan as being suitable for residential use. It was regarded as ‘best for the long-term growth of the town to address the housing requirements in the wider council area’.

The development will also see the population continue to grow steadily, supporting and maintaining existing local schools. In addition to this will be significant areas of open space and attractive landscaping, provided for the benefit of the wider community. We are open to ideas but this could potentially be used for recreational space, allotments, community orchards or for supporting activities such as trim trails and children’s play areas.

Consultation events for the proposals were on show at the Bo’ness Recreation Centre on Gauze Road on Tuesday 23rd April from 4pm to 8pm and on Friday 10th May from 3.30pm to 8pm at Tesco on Link Road.

The public had the opportunity to view the proposals and provide feedback. Two informal community events were organised in December by the developers at the Recreation Centre and Tesco in Bo’ness. The events highlighted support, especially from younger couples, who expressed their desire for housing and in particular affordable housing.

Bo’ness Community Council was met with on Wednesday 12th June.

A Pre-Determination Hearing for this planning application was held on 21st October and reports are being finalised by Falkirk Council for determination in early 2020.
